Comics?

Friday, August 31st, 2007

Tika has to write and draw a comic for school.  I think she should illustrate this fable, which I found in an abandoned saw mill, written in a child’s journal:

There were three boys.  I would say they were men, but they had that look in their eyes- they were still boys.  The first said,

“Sir, all I need is ten thousand dollars, and I can make a film that appeal to the lowest common denominator.  I can make ten times what you give me, guaranteed!”

The second boy said, “Sir, all I need is ten thousand dollars.  I can make a film that will be a cultural milestone.  Everyone will talk about it, and everyone will find meaning in it.”

The third boy said, “Sir, all I need is ten thousand dollars.  I can make a film that will make you immortal.  Everyone will remember your name, because everyone will remember the film, and you will live forever.”

This conversation ended the way all conversations must end: I looked the first boy in the eye and said:

“I’m sorry, I don’t have ten thousand dollars.  I’d ask you to leave, but I don’t live here.  This is a Dunkin’ Donuts.”
